RE

RE Intent

At EPT we provide broad and inclusive RE curriculum that helps children understand the multi-cultural and multi-faith society that live in today.

We follow the agreed syllabus produced by Greenwich SACRE.  All agreed RE syllabus’ must reflect the fact that religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking into account the teachings and practices of the other main religions.

Religious education allows pupils to help build their identity but to understand their culture and the culture of others.  Pupils recognize that beliefs are expressed in a religious or non-religious way. The RE curriculum at EPT develops disciplinary and personal knowledge through chosen substantive content, ways of knowing (theology – sources of evidence; philosophy - why people believe and Social Science - how do people demonstrate their beliefs) and exploring personal beliefs. 

Through the teaching of RE, British Values of individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance encourage pupils to understand how we can interact with each other and explore inter-faith issues in a contemporary society.

In Early Years and KS1, pupils are taught Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and Humanism.  In KS2, the pupils will continue their learning in the faiths introduced in KS1 as well as being introduced to Buddhism in Year 5 and 6.  In upper KS2 philosophy is further developed through the pupils secure understanding of the faiths they have studied.

Throughout their time at Windrush Primary School, pupils are also given the opportunity to visit a Mosque, Church, Hindu Temple, Gurdwara, Synagogue and a Buddhist temple. 

Our aim is that all our pupils understand and reflect the religious and spiritual beliefs and practises whilst also exploring their own responses and personal beliefs.
