History

History Curriculum Rationale

At Windrush we teach a high-quality history education which will help pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

It inspires pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Pupils are taught to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

Our history curriculum helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

We follow the recommendations of the National curriculum, making topic selections that reflect the culturally rich and diverse community of our school. The locality of Windrush School has influenced our topic selection immensely. History knowledge and skills are interwoven and build upon pupil’s prior learning; with repeating themes of causation, change and continuity as well as similarities and differences; that exploring our locality and the wider world.
